SchoolBro is a study buddy for children. It is private by design: there is no account and no login, and it never asks for an email address, a phone number or a child's real name. A child's learning is saved on their phone, not on our servers.
This policy explains what the app handles and why. Questions or requests: manjuselvakumar@gmail.com.
SchoolBro is made for children. The first time the app opens, a parent or guardian is shown how it handles information and must agree — after answering a question a young child can't — before anything else in the app works, and before any question is sent to the AI. The date and the version of the wording agreed to are saved on the phone. Taking out a subscription confirms it again.
A parent can see what their child studied, and any safety notes, in the app's Grown-ups corner, read what they agreed to again at any time, and delete everything on the phone by uninstalling the app. To ask us to delete anything held on our server, email us at the address above.
| Information | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Nickname and grade | On the phone. We ask for a nickname (it need not be a real name) and a grade, which is used only to choose the right subjects and the way the buddy talks. The grade is sent with each question; the nickname is sent only if the child joins a class group. |
| Questions, chats, tasks, reminders, timetable, scores, progress | On the phone only, and left out of Android's cloud backup, so no copy of a child's learning history reaches Google. A two-sentence summary of the last lesson on a topic is sent with the next question on that same topic, so the lesson carries on. |
| Safety notes | On the phone only, for the Grown-ups corner — the kind of concern and the time, never the words. Kept for 90 days. |
| Consent record | On the phone only — when a parent agreed, and to which version. |
| Random phone ID | Created by the app; not linked to a name or an email. Used for the daily question limit, the free days, class membership and notifications. The moderators of a class group can currently see the IDs of its members; we are replacing this with a separate ID that means nothing outside the group. |
| Usage counts | On our server: how many questions a phone asked each day, and when it was first seen (for the free days). To stop abuse, the network address a request comes from is counted for two minutes and then forgotten. |
| Notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) | On our server, so we can tell members about activity in their class group. |
| Class group posts | On our server, so approved members of that group can see them, shown with the author's nickname. Text only — photos can't be shared in groups. |
| Subscription status | If a parent subscribes, Google Play gives the app a purchase token. We store it so we can ask Google whether the subscription is active. We never see card numbers, billing addresses or any payment details — Google Play handles all of that. |
| Transfer copies (only if you use “Move to a new phone”) | A copy of the app's data is stored on our server, retrievable only with the one-time code shown to you, and deleted automatically after 7 days (checked every day). |
| Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) | If the app crashes, a technical report — the phone model, the app version and where in the code it failed — is sent to Google Firebase so we can fix it. It contains no questions or chats. |
When a child talks to the buddy, the phone's own speech recognition turns it into text — on the device, or through the phone maker's speech service (for example Google's), the same system other apps use for dictation. SchoolBro never receives, records or stores a voice. Only the text is sent so the buddy can answer.
Answers come from Claude, made by Anthropic. Each question (with the grade, and for some features a summary of the child's own tasks) is sent through our server to Anthropic to produce the answer. Anthropic does not use it to train its AI, and deletes it within 30 days — unless it is flagged for breaking Anthropic's safety rules, when it may be kept for up to 2 years for safety review.
The buddy is told, every time, that it is talking with a child. It only helps with schoolwork, never asks for personal details, says it is an AI if asked, and refuses anything unsuitable for children.
Our server logs only the kind of concern, never what was said.
We do not sell information. We show no ads, and use no advertising or analytics trackers.
They process data only to provide their service to us.
Class groups are for parents to share school reminders and tasks. Making or joining one needs a grown-up's answer to a question a young child can't. Groups are invite-only, joining needs the moderator's approval, members can report a post, and moderators can remove posts. There is no private one-to-one messaging, and photos can't be shared.
Everything sent between the app and our server is encrypted (HTTPS). API keys live only on our server, never in the app. Class content is restricted to the group's approved members.
If you believe something in SchoolBro — for example a class group post — infringes your copyright, send a notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to our designated agent:
Copyright Agent, ImpulsIQ Labs LLC
206 Santa Fe Trail, Apt 2016, Irving, TX 75063, USA
Phone: +1 201 253 9165
Email: copyright@impulsiqlabs.com
Include: the work you say is infringed; where it appears in the app; your contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them; and your physical or electronic signature. We remove material that is properly reported, and may close the class groups of anyone who infringes repeatedly. Inside the app, any class member can also report a post as “someone else’s work”.
If your post was removed and you think that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent with: what was removed and where it was; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake; your name, address and phone; your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your address (or, outside the US, any place we may be found); and your signature. We pass it to the person who complained, and may restore the post after 10 business days unless they tell us they have gone to court.
When this policy changes in a way that matters, the app asks a parent to agree again, and the date at the top of this page changes.
